Background to SAIF

Safeguarding, in general, and child protection, in particular, challenges professionals tasked with the responsibility of providing direct care to the children, and the named and designated professionals supporting those providing that care. It is often a thankless task made additionally challenging by the isolation that can be felt when complex cases stretch knowledge and experience to the limit.

The aim of the discussion fora is to provide members with an accessible support network to assist them in fulfilling both the strategic role in delivering requirements of the ‘Working Together’ guidance and also their clinical role in providing advice and support to their colleagues involved in safeguarding children.

The discussion fora offer cliniciand and health professionals a unique opportunity to create a forum of peers, sharing a common understanding of needs and concerns, providing rapid access to support and advice to enable them to carry out their duties with an enhanced level of confidence.

The main difference between the fora is the subject matter of the discussions. SAIF for clinicians is designed to enable clinicians to engage in clinical discussion and echange about clinical cases. This might include sensitive and confidential clinical information. The discussions are moderated by an experienced clinician.

SAIF for health professionals is designed to enable health professionals with safeguarding responsibilities to share information to improve practice. This might include information about policies, protocols and guidance. However this does not include sensitive and confidential clinical information. The forum is supported by an administrative team.
